Gentry, M.D. A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, FACOG attended Lipscomb University in Nashville where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1993 with a second major in chemistry and Spanish. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in Memphis, Dr. Gentry trained at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he was named professor in 1999. He became chair there in 2001. After building a successful private practice in Harrisonburg, Virginia between 2001 and 2004, Dr. Gentry joined the National Health Service Corp. and moved to Ozark, Alabama to open a clinic serving the needs of one of the poorest counties in rural Alabama. While at Dale Medical Center, he was appointed Chief of Surgery. Although he closed his practice in 2008 due to Medicaid cuts, he continued his passion for treating patients in underserved areas through his locum work in Arizona, Maine and Virginia.

Dr. Gentry has practiced obstetrics/gynecology at Jackson Hospital for the past nine years. During that time, he served as President of the Perinatal Committee of Region V, a member of the Administrative Medicine Committee and the Credentials Committee, and was the Division Chief. Dr. Gentry joined our practice in 2008 and is today, Whittington, Kouri, & Gentry.

Dr. Gentry and his wife Melanie (a native of Roanoke, Virginia and a former French teacher) have been married for 23 years. Their twin daughters, Haley and Anna, are 20 years old, attending the University of Utah and studying ballet. Their 18-year-old son, Ethan, graduated from Trinity Presbyterian School and is attending the University of Alabama. Of further interest, Dr. Gentry accepts most major insurance plans and is a Tricare provider. Medicaid/Medicare accepts by referral and is now accepting new patients.

On June 30, 2022, our office was purchased by Jackson Hospital. Dr. Chris Duggar will continue to be around for now; He will accept all the patients who are in the clinic, as well as new patients in gynecology. Megan Allen, a registered nurse, will join Dr. Duggar on July 1, 2022. Dr. Whittington and Dr. Kouri retired; Dr. Gentry will move to Baptist East as an obstetrician with OB/GYN Associates of Montgomery. All medical information will be available at Jackson Clinic.
